This kindergarten design which designed by Brooking Design Architects won the Sustainability Advancement Award. The design idea was to create a relaxed teaching environment that facilitates kids learning. The use of energy-efficient and sustainable materials has united the passive and active design solutions.

A relaxed environment can be created with the use of plywood, natural light from the ceiling and soft light. The interesting design idea is the “geometry puzzle pieces” cabinetry, creating a play zone, storage facility and room dividers to separate the teaching spaces. The atmosphere is warm, fun and nurturing as the active muted colour tones are balanced with the natural timber.

Fuji Kindergarten breaks through the typical kindergarten design and creates an open-air kindergarten. Instead of being a rectangular building and closed off classroom, the Japanese firm Tezuka Architects decided to abandon all these rules and designed a space where students can learn and play together.

Fuji Kindergarten is a large oval building that can fit about 500 children. There is a courtyard positioned at the centre. The amazing part is Fuji Kindergarten has no walls at all. Children can access the courtyard from anywhere under the oval as there is no walls and partitions between them.

Kids love slide so so much, and someone makes the children’s dream come true. China-based architecture studio, MAD has transformed an old house in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture into a kindergarten with a curving roofline and with a SLIDE along with one wall.

This unusual design is created to stimulate children and provides an environment that is conducive to both learning and play. Previously, the kindergarten was run by a pair of siblings, the Naras from the home, but they wanted to make a change to improve their facilities.

MAD recycled the building’s existing wooden structure, and build in into the new building design. MAD founder mentioned that,

“I think it’s important to create a homely atmosphere inside this kindergarten, so instead of building a brand new building, we decided to keep the old wooden structure as the memory and the soul of the space, and work around it,” He unveiled plans for the project last year.
